Fluid inspector
Product description
and Technical info
The Fluid Inspector is a fully automatic, self-contained device designed to detect particulate matter in fluids with unmatched precision. It enables you to verify that your cleaning fluids (mix of DI water & cleaning agents) or other industrial fluids are truly clean.
Our innovative solution will not only identify the presence of contamination but also determine the size and number of particles that are present in the fluid. By classification of the particles, you gain in-depth information on the degree of contamination inside the fluid. All this happens within minutes (in real time) and is optimised to be installed in-line with your equipment, to provide direct feedback. The Fluid Inspector delivers clarity, reliability, and confidence in your quality control process.
FAQ
What applications is the fluid inspector instrument suitable for?
Primary application is monitoring of the cleaner quality in the Industrial Cleaning applications. The instrument can however be deployed in other fields, e.g. water filtration, post-machining cleaning, closed loop processes to detect unwanted particle buildup and food industries.
What particle sizes can the Fluid Inspector detect?
The Fluid Inspector can detect particles ranging from 0.5 µm to 50 µm. The instrument contains a pre-filter to remove any particles larger than 50um as these may clot the fluid subsystems.
How many measurements does the Fluid Inspector perform?
A typical setup does one measurement every five minutes, imaging multiple volumes of fluid. However, this can be customized to fit your specific process.
Does the Fluid Inspector require an internet connection to operate?
No, all image acquisition and data processing are done locally on the device. This means no internet connection is needed, and there are no additional costs for cloud subscriptions.
Is a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) built into the device?
A UPS is not included as standard, but can be offered as an optional extra.
How much fluid do we sample in a single measurement?
The system will reflow multiple volumes of the sample fluid and inspect 10x 1uL (1mm3) of the fluid in total. This can be further customised depending on the user requirements.
Are there moving parts?
No, there are no high precision moving parts, apart from the fluidic pumps to reflow the sample fluid. This makes the instrument generally resilient to vibration and mechanical stress.
Does this mean that there are no consumables?
No, there is a single consumable, the fluidic cartridge. The fluid cell inside the cartridge is used to reflow and inspect the fluid during the measurement – the fluid cell and the cartridge itself will get contaminated over time. The product is designed in such a way that the contaminated cartridge (which is no longer usable) can be simply swapped out with a new clean replacement cartridge . The ‘dirty’ cartridge should be sent back to us for overhaul. We deliver each device with a spare cartridge and extra cartridges can be ordered later on, as needed.
Why not use a conventional camera or microscope?
There are multiple reasons.
- A conventional microscope with ~0.5 µm resolution will typically have a much smaller field of view, resulting in a very small volume of fluid inspected. The fluid would have to be reflown hundreds of times to inspect the same volume – this makes it is impractical in real world settings. The scanning time would also be very long.
- A standard camera system can not achieve the required resolution (of 0.5um) so it would not be possible to detect any of particles smaller than a few tens of micrometers.
- A conventional high-magnification microscope is very sensitive to vibrations and mechanical stressed in general – this aspect on its own makes is unsuitable for deployment in real world environments, such as machining workshops, manufacturing facilities, etc.
How long is raw data and logging information stored on the device?
By default, raw data is stored for 24 hours, and results and logs are stored for one month. Storage duration can be extended depending on your requirements.
Can I detect particles in cleaning agents used in cleaning machines?
Yes, as the cleaning agent is a transparent fluid, it is possible to detect and classify the particles. Moreover, this instrument allows you to set threshold levels on which you can receive notifications.
I’m interested in a specific range (size) of particles. Is it possible to narrow the bandwidth of detection?
Yes, with the variable thresholds, you can zoom in on a specific bandwidth of particles that are detected. This is handled on a software level and unwanted data can be left out of the results or simply removed from the report (while the raw data is still collected).
What are the dimensions of the instrument?
The instrument is 400mm x 200mm x 250mm in size. The instrument is self-contained, i.e. it does not require any additional computers or accessories. It includes all the fluid pumps, computer and sensor infrastructure required for the fluid inspection.
What interfaces does the instrument have?
Power: The instrument requires a single 240V power socket.
Networking: The instrument can be connected to either wifi or ethernet (wired) network connection.
Human interface: The instrument has a touch screen with graphics user interface for process control. There is also a power switch on the back side of the instrument.
How are the updates to the instrument SW done?
Assuming the instrument is connected to the internet (and to one of our cloud servers), the updates to the instrument are periodical and fully automated. They do not require any interaction with the user.
What maintenance does the instrument require?
The instrument is designed to be maintenance free, i.e. no maintenance is required. The instrument uses a replaceable cartridge that needs to be changed periodically and/or when the instrument indicates that a new cartridge is needed. (The instrument is initially supplied with multiple cartridges and further cartridges will be supplied as part of the support contract.)
Where do we install it? Fluid connections?
The Fluid Inspector is designed to be installed in-line with the process it is monitoring. This means that it can be placed on the tank, machine, filter installation, … that it is monitoring. Exact location is depending on the process. The Fluid Inspector holds the necessary parts to take samples from a tank that contains a fluid at atmospheric pressure, enabling continuous inline concentration measurements.
